And I still knit

9 December 2008

I have actually done a fair bit of knitting over the past year. What I have not done is take a lot of photos as proof of such knitting. Bummer. Around August I finished the Camellia Sweater by Kate Gilbert. I’ve even worn it! But photos? Not a chance. Early  this year I knit my first sock and never bothered to knit its match since it looks horrible and is way too big.I knit  an official pair of socks that actually looks good and fits. I even have a single sock that is waiting for its mate. I knit my boyfriend his second pair of Dashing arm warmers last week.I’ve knit a couple of scarves and am working on one now as a Christmas gift. I don’t have a whole lot planned tomorrow so maybe that will be a good time to update my Ravelry page and take some pictures before I forget everything that I have done this year!

I deserve no sympathy

30 November 2007

Sometimes I think I should take my own advice. A few weeks ago, my computer decided to give me the blue screen of death. After some technical advice and some finagling and avoiding a full format of the hard drive, it returned to its former glory. Now, this shouldn’t have been a problem, you know, if I were the type to take my own advice and BACK UP MY STUFF. Yeah, I don’t do that so much. I am the one who constantly harps on my parents and those who are slightly less computer knowledgeable than myself to make sure their information is stored somewhere other than their computer, you know, in case the comp ever decides to not respond to your commands. And yet, when I myself am faced with a situation where I could lose a whole 4 years or so of grad school, not to mention photos, music and miscellaneous other stuff, I don’t take my own advice and back it up. And then, to make it that much worse, I had a whole 7 days of functionality, plenty of time to rescue said information while I sorted out what was causing the malfunction. Did I do anything? No. Did my computer die again. Yes. Am I currently typing this from the computer lab at uni. Of course. Le sigh.

In better news, I have been knitting quite a bit. I decided, against my better judgement, to go ahead and knit Christmas gifts for some loved ones this year. Simple, no brainer projects. The boyfriend is getting Dashingfrom knitty and a simple hat, both knit from Debbie Bliss cashmerino aran. Yeah, yeah, I know all about the pilling action, but the color was perfect and I love knitting with it, so it really doesn’t bother me so much that he’ll use them for about half the season. My sister in law, aunt, mom and boyfriends mom are all getting washcloths. If I have time, I may knit dad a hat and Dashing as well, but I know he’ll be disappointed if he doesn’t get is standard issue flannel shirt this Christmas. We’ll see.

Pictures to come, if I can resurrect the laptop from the grave.
